PEUR DE TOMBER DANS LE VIDE | COLOGNE UNIVERSITY OF MUSIC AND DANCE
though taking inspiration from the music of the 17th century composer jean baptiste lully and the court of louis xiv of france, PEUR DE TOMBER DANS LE VIDE is not an attempt to make an authentic period piece, but comes rather from the desire to explore human nature and the potential conflict between authenticity and individual desire versus the pressure to conform.
we inhabit a world of affectation and nuance, where illusion, frivolity, vanity, dissipation and austerity all exist hand in hand. it is a world in which each individual is fighting for survival; where individual destiny is forced both to conform and to submit to something much bigger - the will of the group, which dictates everything. it is a savage yet fragile hierarchy, in which lives may be made and lost on the slightest whim. all is fear...fear of falling into the void.
